The 2007 annual meeting of the Friends of the Cacapon River will be held Saturday, Dec 1 at 1 pm at the old Great Cacapon Elementary School on Rockford Road (Rt 7) just a few blocks off Rt.9.
Our speaker this year will be Rebecca MacLeod. She is the Resource Conservation and Development Coordinator for the Potomac Headwaters RC&D of the U.S. Dept. Of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Services. Her topic will be "Morgan County Water Issues: An Update."
She will review the activities of the numerous county committees that have been studying current and future water issues facing the county, including the status of "ye famed warm springs," ground and surface waters, and the impact of the expanded Coolfont resort. She will also address how the current Comprehensive Plan addresses the issue of protecting the Cacapon River flood plain and riparian area. And finally, she will briefly update us on the recent studies of our endangered Harperella plant along the river. Rebecca has been a long time friend of the river.
The meeting will include a short up date of our activities. There will be an election of board members. We are always looking for new Board members. Let me know if you are interested. We will also do the raffle drawing for the canoe. The meeting should last about two hours.
Some of will be staying afterwards and assembling more of our Homeowners Packets.
Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting.
